Denture tablets and citric acid offer cheap, effective limescale removal

Household limescale can be tackled with two low‑cost alternatives. A denture‑cleaning tablet, when dissolved in warm water, releases effervescence that loosens mineral deposits on glass vases, crystal carafes and ceramic toilet bowls, removing white veils and yellow rings without the strong odor of vinegar. The recommended ratio is one tablet per litre of water, left to act for 20–30 minutes before rinsing.

A second method replaces commercial dishwasher rinse‑aid with a homemade solution of citric acid. Dissolving 60 g of citric‑acid powder in one litre of very hot water yields a clear liquid that prevents calcium spots on glasses and cutlery. The mixture costs under €0.10 per litre and performs as well as store‑bought products while protecting the appliance from mineral buildup.
