Denver and civil rights groups sue to block ICE at polling sites
The City of Denver, along with the League of United Latin American Citizens, UnidosUS, and Common Cause, has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C., to prevent the Trump administration from deploying armed federal immigration agents to polling sites.
The legal action follows statements from Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, who indicated that while the department is not specifically targeting polling locations, arrests could occur at such sites if warrants are being served or if a threat is identified.
The plaintiffs argue that the presence of federal agents at polling places interferes with local election administration and creates spaces of confrontation, which they claim disrupts the voting process and complicates the work of local election officials.
