Denver International Airport restores iconic art and highlights infrastructure
Denver International Airport (DEN) is seeing the return of several iconic artworks following a multi-year construction project in its Great Hall. Among the returning pieces are two 28-foot wide murals by Leo Tanguma, titled ‘In Peace and Harmony with Nature’, which have historically been the subject of various conspiracy theories. Other returning works include Gary Sweeney’s ‘America, Why I Love Her’ and Judith Baca’s digital tile mural, ‘La Memoria de Nuestra Tierra’.
In addition to these cultural updates, the airport’s complex infrastructure remains a point of professional interest. Recent architectural tours led by HNTB members have highlighted the technical challenges of the A-West Concourse expansion, the integration of United Airlines’ baggage handling systems, and the coordination required to maintain operations within a high-volume transportation hub.
