Denys Kostev recounts survival during Russian occupation of Ukraine

Denys Kostev, a Ukrainian orphan, describes his experience surviving the Russian occupation of southern Ukraine. Originally living in an orphanage in Kherson, Kostev was forcibly transferred to the Luchisty summer camp in Russian-annexed Crimea as the war intensified.

To avoid physical assault or imprisonment, Kostev says he acted as a pro-Russian poster child, appearing in numerous videos for Russian television networks. Now residing in Kyiv, Kostev has escaped Russian control and is preparing to join the fight for Ukraine.
