Denzel Washington and Spike Lee thriller tops Apple TV+ charts

The film ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ (released as ‘Del cielo al infierno’ in some regions), directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington, has reached number one on Apple TV+ in approximately 100 countries following its September 5, 2025, release.

A remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic ‘High and Low’, the thriller follows David King, a billionaire music executive, whose life is upended by a kidnapping attempt. While the criminals intend to kidnap King’s son, they instead abduct Kyle, the son of King’s chauffeur and confidant, Paul Christopher, played by Jeffrey Wright.

This project marks the fifth collaboration between Washington and Lee, their first in nearly two decades since 2006’s ‘Inside Man’. The film was presented at the Cannes Film Festival before its direct-to-streaming debut.
