Denzel Washington to star in Christopher McQuarrie thriller

Denzel Washington Christopher McQuarrie Amazon MGM Studios United Artists thriller film

Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists have greenlit an untitled thriller starring Denzel Washington and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.

Written by Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner, the plot follows a former police detective serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Upon receiving compassionate release with six months to live, he returns home to reconnect with an estranged daughter and a previously unknown grandson. While he seeks to make amends, his dark past resurfaces to haunt him.

McQuarrie, who directed the last four Mission: Impossible films, will produce the project alongside Heather McQuarrie, Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, and others. This project follows the postponement of a planned reunion between Washington and director Antoine Fuqua for a Netflix project about Hannibal, which was halted due to budget concerns.
