Deolane Bezerra: MP-SP seeks to maintain detention in PCC money laundering probe

The São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP) has requested the maintenance of preventive detention for influencer and lawyer Deolane Bezerra and several other defendants involved in Operation Vérnix. The investigation targets a sophisticated money laundering scheme allegedly linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) criminal organization.

Prosecutors describe the criminal structure as being divided into three distinct cores: a decision-making core led by PCC leader Marcola and his brother Alejandro Camacho; an operational core; and a financial core. Deolane Bezerra is identified by the prosecution as a key figure in the financial core, acting as a “true cashier” for the organization by using her personal accounts and companies to conceal illicit funds and convert them into luxury assets.

The investigation, which began in 2019, has identified significant financial movements incompatible with the defendants' declared income. While the defense for Marcola and his family has requested the reevaluation of their detentions and the possibility of using electronic monitoring, the MP-SP argues that continued detention is necessary to ensure public order and the application of criminal law, particularly as some family members remain at large.
