Deolane Bezerra's Prison Conditions Disputed by São Paulo Authorities

Influencer Deolane Bezerra, detained preventively in the Penitenciária Feminina de Tupi Paulista, has faced accusations from her defense that the facility suffers severe hygiene problems, including dirty dishes, food contamination, extreme heat and the presence of scorpions. Her sister and lawyer claimed she required medical assistance for panic attacks and that she killed four scorpions in a single day.

The São Paulo Penal Police issued a statement rejecting the allegations, saying meals follow a standard nutritionist‑approved menu, water is regularly tested, and the prison undergoes periodic pest‑control, with the last treatment in April and no records of venomous insects. The state's Prison Administration (SAP) also sent photographs to the public prosecutor, showing individual cells with personal belongings, televisions and organized spaces, countering the defense’s description of unsanitary conditions. The court has denied Bezerra’s requests to transfer her to a high‑security ward or to substitute preventive detention with house arrest.

Both agencies maintain that the prison meets regulatory standards, while the defense continues to argue that the conditions jeopardize Bezerra’s health.
