Deolane Bezerra faces judicial setbacks as daughter is hospitalized

The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) has rejected two habeas corpus requests filed by the defense of lawyer and influencer Deolane Bezerra. The court declined to analyze the merits of the requests, deeming the legal instrument used as an improper substitute for the appropriate appeal. Bezerra has been in preventive detention since May 21, 2026, following Operation Vérnix, which investigates alleged money laundering and links to the criminal organization PCC.

Following the judicial decisions, Bezerra’s 10-year-old daughter, Valentina, was hospitalized in São Paulo after suffering a severe panic attack. Family members reported that the child became intensely distressed upon learning of the legal setbacks, leading to an emergency medical intervention.

In addition to the judicial developments, Bezerra’s sister, Daniele Bezerra, has filed a police report alleging that Deolane faced death threats and religious intolerance from prison agents while in custody at the Tupi Paulista Female Penitentiary. The defense continues to contest the legality of the preventive detention, citing professional prerogatives and the psychological impact on the family, and is preparing to appeal to the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) on October 27.
