Deontay Wilder linked to Jai Opetaia heavyweight bout

Negotiations for a heavyweight bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Deontay Wilder have reportedly ended. Instead, Deontay Wilder is being linked to a fight against Jai Opetaia.

Wilder’s manager, Shelly Finkel, stated they have “accepted offer for Wilder to face Jai Opetaia” and are currently awaiting confirmation. The match is being explored as a co-feature for the Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua undercard, scheduled for December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Jai Opetaia is an undefeated cruiserweight champion with a 31-0 record. The potential matchup pits the 40-year-old heavyweight Wilder against the younger, undefeated Opetaia. While the fight is not yet signed, it represents a significant shift in the heavyweight and cruiserweight landscape.
