Deonte Banks excels in shutdown performance against Nico Collins

New York Giants cornerback Deonte Banks delivered a standout performance against the Houston Texans, successfully neutralizing star receiver Nico Collins. According to Next Gen Stats, Banks faced Collins in 14 specific matchups during the game, limiting the receiver to just one catch for four yards in those situations.

Banks, a 2023 first-round draft pick, has seen a career resurgence after facing scrutiny and the Giants declining his fifth-year option. He credited the coaching staff for his improved confidence, noting that they allow him to play aggressively. Despite the defensive unit playing without safety Jevon Holland and cornerback Greg Newsome II, the Giants secured a 27-21 victory, though the game required overtime.

Banks has recorded 10 pass defenses across five appearances this season. While he acknowledged areas for improvement, such as tackling, his ability to handle elite targets has solidified his role as a starting cornerback for New York.
