DEPA Emporias to decide on Larissa gas power plant by 2026

DEPA Emporias expects to reach a final investment decision for a new 792 MW natural gas power plant in the Larissa Industrial Area by the end of 2026. The project, which aims to be operational by 2030, is part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in both the natural gas and electricity markets.

The investment scheme includes DEPA Emporias with a 35% stake, Clavenia Ltd with 38.5%, EUSIF Larissa with 6.5%, and Volton with 10%. An EPC contract was signed last August, and the unit will be equipped with a Mitsubishi gas turbine.

Securing final financing remains pending. The company noted that potential legislative initiatives from the Ministry of Environment and Energy regarding the transfer of a significant portion of DESFA to state control could strengthen DEPA Emporias’s asset base, potentially facilitating bank financing.

In addition to the Larissa project, the company is involved in a natural gas unit in Alexandroupoli in collaboration with PPC, and is developing renewable energy projects, including 100 MW of solar power in Farsala and 50 MW in Kozani.
