Department of Education opens Beta 2 testing for 2027-28 FAFSA

The U.S. Department of Education has launched Beta 2 testing for the 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This phase allows a broader group of students and parents to request early access to complete the actual application before the official launch on October 1.

Applications submitted during this beta period are real submissions and do not require resubmission once the official cycle begins. Users who complete the form early may receive aid results sooner, allowing colleges to receive data ahead of the general public. While access is not guaranteed immediately, the Department is admitting new users in batches on a rolling basis via StudentAid.gov.
