Department of Justice monitors New Hampshire primary voting

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) deployed monitors to polling sites in Manchester and Nashua to oversee the New Hampshire primary election. The Civil Rights Division's Voting Section assigned four staff members to each city to ensure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal voting rights laws.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon stated that the monitoring is a routine effort to maintain trust and transparency, noting that the department is also preparing for midterm election monitoring. U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan emphasized the partnership between state and federal offices to ensure election integrity in the state.

Local polling moderators reported varying levels of interaction with the federal officials. Some moderators noted that monitors arrived briefly to observe the process and ask questions, describing the presence as non-invasive and focused on understanding local procedures. The DOJ has previously identified several states, including Arizona, Michigan, and Minnesota, for monitoring during the 2026 primary season.
