Department of Justice reportedly hires convicted election hacker

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly hired David Michael Levin, a Florida attorney who previously pleaded guilty to illegally accessing government election websites. In 2016, Levin was charged with three felonies after using a cyberattack to obtain credentials for both a county elections website and the Florida Division of Elections website. His charges were later reduced to two misdemeanors, and he served 20 days in jail followed by two years of probation.

Levin appears to have joined the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division and was recently involved in an election monitoring operation in Minnesota. This development comes as the DOJ prepares to deploy approximately 1,000 monitors to polling locations during the upcoming midterm elections. While the Justice Department has not officially confirmed Levin’s hiring or specific role, reports indicate his involvement alongside senior DOJ counsel.
