Department of Justice seeks indictment of Cassidy Hutchinson over January 6 testimony
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking to indict former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson regarding her testimony about the January 6 Capitol riots. The DOJ's Civil Rights Division has presented evidence to a federal grand jury, alleging that Hutchinson provided false testimony during her June 2022 appearance before the January 6 committee.
Hutchinson, who served under former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, previously testified that Donald Trump was aware of the potential for violence during the Capitol attack. While some political figures and news outlets have previously challenged the accuracy of her claims—including allegations regarding phone calls made on January 5—the DOJ is now moving toward a formal decision on whether to proceed with an indictment following further evidence presentations expected later this month.
