Department of Migrant Workers expands aid and services for OFWs

The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has distributed 9,145,000 pesos in AKSYON Fund aid to 170 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families. The distribution, held in Mandaluyong City, is part of the government’s UPLIFT Initiative designed to assist migrant workers facing financial distress or crises.

In a separate development, the Philippine government is establishing a Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Guam. According to Philippine Consul General Rosario P. Lemque, the office is expected to begin operations in September 2026. The new office will fall under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Consulate General in Guam and will serve workers in Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

The Guam MWO aims to provide closer access to labor-related services, including document verification, employment assistance, and welfare support, reducing the need for workers in the region to rely on the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.
