Department of State Services frees carpenter cleared in Oyo school kidnapping

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Mustapha Marwana, a carpenter who was previously arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of students and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State. Following a comprehensive investigation by a DSS panel, authorities found no evidence linking the Katsina-born artisan to the Ansaru terrorist group responsible for the May 15 attack.

DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi ordered Marwana’s immediate release and approved an initial compensation of N3 million to assist with his reintegration and livelihood. Marwana was released into the custody of his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.

According to security sources, the compensation is part of a broader initiative under the current DSS leadership to support individuals cleared of wrongdoing following investigations. The service has reportedly paid out over N300 million in compensation to various individuals since Ajayi’s appointment.
