Department of Veterans Affairs advances healthcare research and technology
The Department of Veterans Affairs is reporting advancements in healthcare through its Million Veteran Program (MVP) and the implementation of a new Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Research from the MVP, one of the world’s largest representative research programs, has utilized participant data to identify DNA markers linked to conditions such as cancer, anxiety disorders, and peripheral artery disease. These findings aim to improve early disease detection and clinical care for veterans.
Additionally, VA providers utilized the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Detroit as a training opportunity for the Federal EHR system. Doctors from facilities not yet using the system received mentorship from experienced providers to prepare for future deployments of the electronic record technology.
