Deployable Energy to test Unity Nuclear Battery in full-power and offshore trials

Nuclear startup Deployable Energy is advancing its Unity Nuclear Battery through two major testing phases: a full-power demonstration at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and a maritime test in collaboration with Hornbeck Offshore.

The full-power testing at INL aims to evaluate the reactor’s integrated system, including controls, safety, and operational procedures, at its intended power level. This phase is designed to generate technical data necessary to support licensing by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Following the laboratory tests, the Unity Nuclear Battery will be deployed in an offshore environment with Hornbeck Offshore. This maritime demonstration will assess how the compact reactor performs under real-world sea conditions, specifically evaluating constraints such as space, weight, logistics, and environmental integration.
