Deportes Antofagasta lauds Mejillones stadium after Copa Chile win, eyes renovation
Deportes Antofagasta coach Luis Marcoleta praised the warm reception from the community of Mejillones after his team defeated Deportes La Serena 4‑2 in a Group C Copa Chile match held at the Estadio Municipal de Mejillones. Marcoleta highlighted the affection and support he received, noting that the venue proved a positive temporary home.
The club will begin the second half of the Primera B season playing at its regular ground, Estadio Calvo y Bascuñán, but that stadium is slated for a major renovation. Consequently, Deportes Antofagasta is evaluating alternative venues, including the Parque Juan López in Antofagasta, which requires upgrades to meet Ascenso standards, and the possibility of continuing to use the Mejillones stadium on a temporary basis.
