Deportivo Alavés dismisses Nikola Maras for performance decline
Deportivo Alavés has terminated the contract of Serbian defender Nikola Maras through disciplinary dismissal. The club cited a “manifest, voluntary, and continuous decrease” in his performance as the basis for the decision.
The club stated that the disciplinary procedure followed the AFE-LALIGA Collective Agreement and was supported by objective data. To justify the dismissal, Alavés utilized performance analysis from professional platforms including Wyscout, Catapult, and SkillCorner. These tools provided metrics regarding physical performance, training records, and tactical-technical parameters to demonstrate a sustained lack of effort.
Maras was given the opportunity to present observations during the proceedings, but the club maintained that the findings remained unchanged. By opting for disciplinary dismissal rather than a standard termination, the club avoids paying the remainder of his contract, which was set to expire in June 2027. The player now becomes a free agent, though he may choose to contest the decision in court.
