Deportivo Cuenca resumes training after salary debt strike
Deportivo Cuenca players have resumed training following a brief work stoppage caused by unpaid wages. The players had halted activities for two days to protest three months of outstanding salaries and unpaid percentages from Copa Sudamericana prize money.
Following meetings between the squad and club president Eduardo Álvarez, an agreement was reached for a partial payment. The club management has committed to paying one of the three months of owed salaries next week. The financial crisis also reportedly affects administrative staff and includes debts carried over from the previous season.
Despite the internal turmoil, the team remains competitive in the LigaPro hexagonal, currently holding second place with 37 points, trailing leader Mushuc Runa by two points.
