Deportivo La Coruña and Elche draw 1-1 in La Liga return match
Deportivo La Coruña marked their return to La Liga after an eight-year absence with a 1-1 draw against Elche CF at the Estadio ABANCA-Riazor. The match featured a standout debut for 37-year-old striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored the opening goal in the 21st minute following an assist from Lorenzo Amatucci.
Despite Deportivo's early lead and strong defensive performances from goalkeeper Leo Román, Elche managed to equalize in the 76th minute through a header by Marc Aguado. The result reflects a competitive start for both sides, with Elche securing a notable away point in their opening fixture.
The match also highlighted social tensions at the stadium, as Deportivo reported that players faced insults and pressure from certain fans regarding non-sporting issues. Additionally, the club noted that the atmosphere was impacted by ongoing disputes regarding membership measures.
