Deptford waste facility fire triggers emergency response and rail delays
A large fire broke out at a waste facility on Landman Way in Deptford, southeast London, involving approximately 50 tonnes of stored household waste. About 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were deployed to the scene to combat the blaze.
Station Commander Duncan Rees stated that crews are working in difficult conditions, utilizing 32m and 64m ladders as water towers to tackle the flames from above. Due to the large amount of smoke produced, local residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
The incident has caused significant rail disruption. National Rail reported that lines between New Cross and London Bridge are blocked, leading to cancellations and delays. Passengers traveling between London Blackfriars and East Croydon have been advised to allow an extra 30 minutes for their journeys as services are diverted.
