Deputy Attorney General Asep Nana Mulyana calls for legal paradigm shift

Indonesia's Deputy Attorney General, Prof. Dr. Asep Nana Mulyana, is advocating for a paradigm shift in the nation's law enforcement approach. Speaking at the 15th Lustrum of the Faculty of Law at Andalas University, Mulyana argued that legal success should no longer be measured solely by quantitative metrics, such as the number of cases handled or the volume of defendants sentenced to prison.

Instead, he proposed a more substantive approach focused on resolving the root causes of criminal activity. Mulyana suggested implementing methods such as corruption impact assessments, deferred prosecution agreements, and non-conviction based asset forfeiture. He emphasized that legal development must align with the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045 to strengthen the rule of law and achieve the 'Golden Indonesia' vision by balancing certainty, justice, utility, and peace based on Pancasila.
