Deputy Minister Bima Arya emphasizes regional leadership and cultural preservation

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto has highlighted the necessity of strengthening leadership capacity at the regional level to ensure the effective implementation of regional autonomy. Speaking at an event in Jakarta, Bima Arya noted that decentralization requires more than just the transfer of authority; it demands systematic efforts to develop leaders capable of managing those powers effectively.

Drawing from his academic background, Bima Arya observed a shift in political party leadership from figures focused primarily on mass mobilization toward those possessing stronger administrative and managerial capabilities. He emphasized that while mobilization is necessary for consolidation, governance capacity is essential for adapting to modern government systems.

Additionally, Bima Arya called upon the Bundo Kanduang Association to play a vital role in preserving Minangkabau customs and religious values. He noted that these cultural institutions are crucial for maintaining identity and guiding younger generations, citing the resilience of West Sumatran communities as a testament to the strength of their traditional values.
