Deputy Omar Sabat dismissed from driving under the influence case

The Valdivia Guarantee Court has ordered the definitive dismissal of criminal charges against Deputy Omar Sabat (UDI) regarding a 2024 driving under the influence case. The ruling follows Sabat’s successful completion of a two-year conditional suspension of the procedure.

The incident occurred in mid-2024 during Sabat’s candidacy for regional governor, when a police check revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.95 grams per liter. To resolve the legal matter, Sabat agreed to three specific conditions: a two-year suspension of his driver’s license, a $100,000 payment to the Valdivia Fire Department, and the maintenance of an updated residential address with the court.

Having fulfilled all requirements, the court has ordered the immediate return of his driver’s license. Pedro Lamas, the regional president of the UDI in Los Ríos, expressed support for the deputy, stating that Sabat “always recognized his error.”
