Deputy President Kithure Kindiki Rejects Rumors of Lost Roles

Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki responded to viral social‑media reports that he had been stripped of key intergovernmental responsibilities, labeling the allegations "fake news" in a brief post on his official X account.

Dennis Itumbi, head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the President’s Executive Office, also dismissed the claims, stating that Kenya’s intergovernmental relations are governed by multiple institutions. He affirmed that the National and County Government Coordinating Summit, chaired by President William Ruto, remains the apex body and that the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) continues to be chaired by Kindiki as mandated by law. No comment has been issued by the State House or Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's office.

The rumors, which suggested President Ruto had reassigned these duties to Mudavadi, have fueled speculation about Kindiki's political standing ahead of the 2027 general election, but both Kindiki and the president’s office have rejected the reports.
