Derby County signs Shane Duffy to address defensive injury crisis
Derby County has completed the signing of veteran defender Shane Duffy on a short-term contract following a free transfer. The 34-year-old Republic of Ireland international joins the club to bolster a depleted backline currently facing a severe injury crisis.
Manager John Eustace is dealing with a shortage of defensive options, with up to nine players unavailable. Specifically, six defenders are sidelined due to injury, including Sondre Langås and Eiran Cashin, while Dion Sanderson is serving a suspension. The club has struggled defensively in recent matches, conceding eight goals in their last five games.
Duffy, who previously played for Norwich City, has been training with the squad for the past two weeks. The move reunites him with Eustace, who previously worked with Duffy during his time as an assistant coach for the Republic of Ireland. Duffy is expected to be available for the upcoming match against Millwall.
