Four Gambian nationals killed in Derby A38 crash

A red Hyundai carrying five occupants left the A38 near the Toyota Island in Derby at about 11 p.m. on 25 July 2026 and collided with trees. Four people died: a 36‑year‑old man, two women aged 18 and 30, and a seven‑month‑old baby girl. All victims were from Leeds and were travelling from Birmingham to Leeds.

The driver, a 33‑year‑old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released on bail. Derbyshire Police have appealed for witnesses and dash‑cam footage. The Gambia High Commission in the UK expressed condolences, and the Gambia Welfare Society named one victim as Abu Camara and the infant as Aisha Camara. Families are receiving support from specialist officers.
