Dereck Lively II continues intensive rehab following foot surgeries

Dallas Mavericks general manager Mike Schmitz provided an update on center Dereck Lively II, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation following a series of foot injuries. Lively has undergone three foot surgeries over the past year, including a stress fracture and the removal of bone spurs, which limited him to playing only seven games during the 2025-26 season.

Schmitz praised Lively’s dedication, stating that the 22-year-old has been “working his tail off” and remains constantly in the facility to prepare for the upcoming season. While a specific timeline for his return to full activity has not been released, reports suggest he has progressed to weight-lifting and walking, with some speculation that he may have begun running.

The recovery process comes at a critical juncture for the Mavericks, as Lively is now extension-eligible. His availability remains a significant question for the team's roster depth heading into the 2026-27 season.
