Derek Carr podcast theme song sparks social media controversy

Social media users have sparked a debate regarding the theme song used for ‘Home Grown with David & Derek Carr’, a podcast hosted by former NFL quarterbacks. Observers noted that the podcast’s outro music bears an uncanny resemblance to the ‘We Are Charlie Kirk’ AI-generated song, which became a viral sensation following the death of the conservative podcaster in September 2025.

The similarity has led to conflicting claims online. Some users accused the Carr brothers of using a version of the Kirk song, while others defended them, suggesting that the ‘We Are Derek Carr’ song actually predates the Kirk version. The controversy has centered on whether the podcast is using an AI-generated rip-off or if the viral Kirk song was modeled after the Carr brothers’ existing theme.
