Derek Chisora announces December fight against Murat Gassiev
British heavyweight boxer Derek Chisora has dismissed rumors of his retirement, announcing plans to fight Murat Gassiev in December. Speaking at an International Boxing Association (IBA) press conference in Istanbul, the 42-year-old veteran clarified that while his April bout against Deontay Wilder was billed as his 50th and final fight, he never officially retired.
Chisora stated, “December will be me versus Gassiev,” adding that the fight will likely take place in either London or Manchester. He expressed his intention to put both the IBA title and the title currently held by Gassiev on the line.
Murat Gassiev is the current WBA ‘super’ heavyweight world champion. The status of the championship remains a point of discussion following reports regarding potential title fights involving Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Chisora, who holds 36 career wins, compared his continued career to film sequels, describing his return as “The Last Dance 3.”
