Derek Forbort signs AHL professional tryout with Calgary Wranglers

Veteran defenseman Derek Forbort has signed a professional tryout (PTO) agreement with the Calgary Wranglers, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.

The 34-year-old defender is seeking to return to professional play after missing most of the previous season due to a persistent hip injury. Forbort, who appeared in only two games for the Vancouver Canucks last season, underwent surgery to repair a labral tear in his hip following unsuccessful attempts to manage the injury with injections.

Forbort brings significant experience to the Wranglers, having played 552 NHL games over 11 seasons. The PTO allows him to compete for a spot on the roster, with the potential to earn a full-season contract in either the AHL or the NHL.
