Derek Lee leaves TVB after 36 years to pursue new career paths

Veteran TVB emcee Derek Lee has announced his departure from Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) after 36 years of service. Following the expiration of his contract, the 53-year-old professional, known for his multilingual skills and high-profile hosting of award ceremonies and charity events, stated he is returning to freelance status to seek new career directions.

Lee expressed a desire to step out of his comfort zone, noting that his professional pace had slowed in recent years. He indicated that rather than passively waiting for opportunities, he intends to proactively explore new fields. He teased an upcoming “adventure in another world” and a return to the public eye under a new identity.

In preparation for this transition, Lee has already been diversifying his expertise. He recently completed courses at the Peking University School of Economics and has reportedly begun working in the insurance industry alongside his high-end brand hosting engagements. His final major appearance for the broadcaster was hosting the 2025 “Starlight Gala for Po Leung Kuk.”
