Dermatologists address acne and skin health concerns

Dermatologists are addressing common skin concerns, noting that social media trends often promote unrealistic beauty standards like ‘glass skin’ which can be misleading for adolescents. Dr. Jonathan Kentley warns that many images seen online are highly filtered and unattainable, emphasizing that visible pores, blackheads, and redness are normal during puberty.

Dr. Zainab Laftah explains that acne is frequently driven by testosterone, which increases oil production and leads to clogged follicles. While common, these issues are treatable, and ingredients like salicylic acid can be effective when used appropriately.

Additionally, Dr. Neera Nathan from Massachusetts General Hospital clarifies that small dark spots on the nose may not be blackheads (comedones) but rather sebaceous filaments. These are a normal part of skin structure used to transport sebum and do not require elimination, though their visibility can be reduced using ingredients such as sulfur.
