Dermatologists advise year-round sunscreen use to prevent skin damage

Dermatologists emphasize the importance of daily sunscreen use regardless of the season or temperature. While UVB rays, which cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer, fluctuate with the seasons, UVA rays remain relatively consistent throughout the year. UVA rays can penetrate clouds and glass, contributing to cumulative skin damage such as fine lines, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and increased skin cancer risk.

Mineral sunscreens, which typically utilize zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, work by sitting on the skin's surface to reflect and scatter UV rays. Experts note that even in cooler weather, such as during autumn or winter, UV exposure remains a factor for individuals engaging in outdoor activities like driving, hiking, or sitting near windows.
