Dermatologists Caution Against AI-Driven Beauty Standards and Unverified Skincare Trends

Dermatologist Ricardo Ruiz, founder and medical director of the Clínica Dermatológica Internacional in Spain, warns that artificial intelligence and digital culture are driving increasingly perfect and artificial facial ideals. In his 2026 book *Larga vida a tu piel*, he argues that skin has become a battleground for science, market forces, technology, and emotional narratives, and he urges reliance on solid scientific evidence rather than hype.

In Argentina, dermatologist María José Corsi, president of the Argentine Society of Dermatology's Misiones section, cautions the public about following skincare routines popularized on social media. She stresses that effective skin care should be prescribed by a qualified dermatologist, emphasizing basic steps such as proper cleansing, antioxidant use, adequate hydration, and high‑SPF sunscreen. Corsi highlights the potential for adverse reactions—including eczema, contact dermatitis, rosacea flare‑ups, and acne—when products like retinol or exfoliating acids are misused without professional guidance.

Both experts underline the need for evidence‑based dermatological practice amid the growing influence of digital platforms on beauty standards and personal care routines.
