Dermatologists provide guidance on bathing and skin care habits

Dermatologists advise on proper bathing and foot care habits to maintain skin health and prevent irritation. Regarding bathing, experts suggest that staying under water for more than 10 minutes can compromise the skin barrier, which is responsible for retaining moisture and blocking irritants. The ideal duration is typically between five and ten minutes using lukewarm water rather than hot water.

To protect the skin, dermatologists recommend washing hair first, followed by the body, and finally the face to prevent conditioner residue from causing breakouts. After bathing, applying moisturizer quickly helps retain hydration. For foot care, a soak using warm water, salt, and olive oil can help soften rough areas like heels. Salt acts as a cleanser to soften hardened skin, while olive oil serves as an emollient to reduce water loss. It is essential to dry thoroughly between the toes after such treatments to prevent moisture buildup.
