Dermatologists urge daily sun protection and lip care
Dermatologists emphasize the importance of consistent UV protection for various parts of the body, noting that sunscreen should be treated as a daily essential rather than just a vacation item.
Dr. Marie Jourdan highlights that sunscreen acts as a technical shield against various wavelengths of solar radiation. Because the mixture of chemical and mineral filters degrades throughout the day, she recommends carrying sunscreen in a handbag or backpack to allow for reapplication, especially in urban environments.
Additionally, medical experts warn that the lips are highly vulnerable to sun damage due to their thin skin and low melanin levels. Dr. Hanane Chahoub explains that UVB rays can cause acute inflammation or burns, while UVA rays contribute to other forms of damage. Symptoms of lip sunburn include redness, swelling, and tingling. To prevent these issues, experts advise using lip balms with a high protection index and applying hydrating treatments after exposure.
