Dermatology expert Makbule Dündar urges two‑hour sunscreen reapplication in Turkey

Dr. Makbule Dündar of Medipol Health Group’s Dermatology Department highlighted sunscreen as one of the most important defenses against skin cancer. She warned that a single application is insufficient, stating “sunscreen must be renewed every two hours, especially at the beach or pool.” The recommended amount follows the “two‑finger rule” for the face.

The doctor stressed that effective products should protect against both UVB (causing burns and tanning) and UVA (leading to skin aging and wrinkles). She advised using at least SPF 30 in summer, with SPF 50 for sensitive skin, and suggested blue‑light‑filtering sunscreens for people who spend long periods in front of screens. For children, she recommended mineral‑filter sunscreens, noting that childhood sunburns significantly raise the risk of skin cancer later in life.

These guidelines aim to reduce the incidence of skin‑cancer and other UV‑related skin damage, particularly among children and individuals with sensitive or oily skin types.
