Derry City defeats St Patrick’s Athletic to impact title race

Derry City secured a 1-0 victory over St Patrick’s Athletic at the Ryan McBride Brandywell, a result that significantly impacts the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division title race. Kevin Dos Santos scored the decisive goal with a close-range header just after the hour mark, marking his fifth goal in ten matches.

The defeat leaves St Patrick’s Athletic six points behind league leaders Shamrock Rovers with only two games remaining in the season. This loss follows back-to-back defeats for the Dublin-based club over a four-day period, effectively ending their challenge for the championship.

Before the match, Derry City supporters displayed a banner reading ‘It’s Not Weak to Speak’ in reference to comments made by James McClean regarding men’s mental health. On the pitch, Patrick McClean was named man of the match following several key defensive plays.
