Derry Sulaiman to testify in Dr. Richard Lee's legal hearing

Ustaz Derry Sulaiman has announced his intention to testify as a witness in the upcoming legal hearing for Dr. Richard Lee, scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2026. Derry, who guided Richard during his conversion to Islam, stated he is prepared to provide explanations to the judge regarding Richard's religious status.

This testimony follows public scrutiny questioning whether Richard's status as a mualaf (convert) is being used as a legal shield. Derry defended the validity of the conversion, noting that he personally performed the syahadat (declaration of faith) and that Richard has not retracted his Islamic identity.

Addressing concerns regarding Richard's identity card (KTP) not yet reflecting his religion and the revocation of his mualaf certificate by the Mualaf Centre Indonesia, Derry stated that the administrative updates are simply pending and that he respects the decisions made by others.
