Dertour Group reports rise in last-minute travel bookings
The Dertour Group reported a shift in travel booking patterns for the 2026 summer season (June to September). Data from brands including Dertour, ITS, Meiers Weltreisen, and Travelix shows that last-minute bookings—defined as those made with a lead time of 50 days or less—increased by 2.5 percentage points to 28.5 percent.
While early bookings (more than five months in advance) remained the largest segment at 39 percent, there was a noticeable decline in mid-term planning. The share of travelers booking between 51 and 150 days in advance fell by 1.5 percentage points to 32.5 percent. Analysts attribute this trend to geopolitical uncertainty and extreme summer temperatures in Europe, which caused travelers to delay decisions.
In terms of destinations, Turkey maintained its leading position for short and medium-haul trips, ahead of Spain and Greece. Egypt saw slight gains, whereas Spain and Germany experienced declines. For long-haul travel, the Indian Ocean, North America, and Thailand remained the strongest markets. Notably, destinations such as Southern Africa, Australia, Vietnam, and Japan saw above-average growth, reflecting an increasing demand for experiential and tour-based travel.
