Derya Dikici apprehended in US after 13-year flight from Turkish bank fraud case
Derya Dikici, a former portfolio manager at Denizbank, has been apprehended in the United States after 13 years on the run. The arrest follows a long-standing investigation into a $1.8 million fund embezzlement case that occurred between 2009 and 2011.
Internal audits revealed that Dikici abused her authority to conduct unauthorized transactions from seven different accounts, transferring approximately $1.8 million to accounts belonging to a family associated with oil companies. Upon learning of the investigation in July 2011, Dikici fled to the United States.
Despite an Interpol red notice, Dikici evaded authorities for over a decade, living in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island areas under the surname 'Terzioğlu'. She was eventually detained by federal police in the Suffolk area of Boston in April 2024. Legal proceedings in Turkey had previously sought prison sentences of 12 to 20 years for Dikici and other involved parties on charges of qualified embezzlement.
