DESAN Shipyard launches 99-meter coast guard vessel for Malaysia

DESAN Shipyard has launched the MPMS-1, a 99-meter multi-purpose coast guard vessel built for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). The launch ceremony took place at the ATLAS Shipyard within the Kocaeli Free Zone, attended by Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi.

The vessel is equipped with advanced domestic Turkish defense industry systems and is set to become one of the two largest ships in the MMEA inventory. Malaysian Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail noted that the ship represents a symbol of trust and cooperation between Malaysia and Turkey, aimed at enhancing response capabilities against illegal fishing, smuggling, and maritime border crimes.

Following further testing and technical work, the MPMS-1 is scheduled for official delivery to Malaysia in January 2027.
