Descendants of the Sun to be remade as Indonesian film

Production house NEW has announced that the popular South Korean drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ will be remade as an Indonesian feature film. Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, the film aims to adapt the original 2016 series to incorporate local cultural nuances and settings.

Reza Rahadian and Dian Sastrowardoyo have been cast as the lead actors. The project marks a reunion for Rahadian and Bramantyo, who previously worked together on ‘Perempuan Berkalung Sorban’. Dian Sastrowardoyo expressed excitement about the project, noting it is her first time playing a romantic interest alongside Rahadian.

Filming has reportedly concluded, and the movie is currently in the post-production stage. It is scheduled for a theatrical release in Indonesian cinemas in 2027.
