Desenzano del Garda boat owners protest port thefts and vandalism

Boating enthusiasts at the port of Desenzano del Garda are protesting an increase in thefts, vandalism, and unauthorized access to moored vessels. Owners report that after a period of relative calm, incidents involving damage and trespassing have intensified during the winter and summer seasons.

Reported incidents include individuals using private boats as overnight gathering spots for drinking and substance use. Specific damages cited include the destruction of a sailboat's cover to gain access to the cabin and a motorboat being stripped of its cushions. Some owners have also found debris, such as empty beer cans, left inside their vessels.

In response to these security concerns, boat owners are calling for more thorough inspections beyond the main pier and better public lighting, noting that some new streetlights are frequently left unlit. While the local administration has implemented a private security service with variable patrol hours, residents express dissatisfaction with the current level of protection and the costs associated with repairs and cleaning.
