Desert Southwest faces extreme heat and high humidity

An extreme heat warning has been issued for parts of the Desert Southwest, including regions in Arizona, California, and Nevada. Affected areas include the Las Vegas Valley, Death Valley National Park, Lake Mead, and Lake Havasu.

Forecasts indicate high temperatures ranging between 106 and 112 degrees Fahrenheit. High humidity levels are expected to increase the heat index, with ‘feels like’ temperatures reaching between 105 and 117 degrees. In some areas, the warning is scheduled to remain in effect through Friday evening.

Safety officials advise residents to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned environments, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. Warnings have been issued regarding the lethal temperatures car interiors can reach within minutes, and the importance of checking on relatives and neighbors.
